Read Below to See How 10 Volunteers Saved 2 IGs from Euthanization It is a sad state of affairs due to economic difficulty with IG owners across the state of Florida. Florida is currently in the top 5 states of unemployment percentages and many IG owners are surrendering their dogs because they cannot afford to keep them. This is where IGCA FL comes in. We care for these dogs in foster care and find them forever homes. We DO NOT discriminate on age, health or sex. Take for instance Estelle, at 17 years she was kicked out of her home and put on the streets by her owners to be picked up by animal control, who later asked us to take her so they wouldn’t have to euthanize a healthy IG based upon her age. She will be able to live out her last year, loved by a foster mom, opposed to being euthanized before her time or dying on the streets. Become a part of the solution, e-mail:
IGCA Rescue Florida utilizes a network of volunteers across the state to accomplish our mission. No one volunteer does everything, rather each individual does their part and it culminates into an organization that has the power to save many dogs!
Here is a recent example, this event took place in November, 2010:
2 Iggies were surrendered on zero notice from an owner that threatened to take them to the shelter if we didn't have room for them. They would have been euthanized there due to their health conditions. We did not have a single foster spot available at the time.
The dogs were surrendered in Miami, the foster homes were in Tampa.
2 People volunteered to foster for the first time.
1 volunteer in Tampa did both homevisits at the last minute so they could be approved.
Our Miami Rep handled the surrender in the meantime, as well as planning for the transport.
Another volunteer got the IGs from the Miami Rep.
Another Volunteer met her 2/3 of the way through the transport and completed the 2nd leg of the transport from Miami to Tampa.
Another Volunteer handled leg 3 of the transport.
Each IG arrived in his respective foster home.
They each had lifesaving surguries from a contributing veterinarian.
Our Melbourne Rep handled logistics and planning.
10 Volunteers each did their part and 2 IGs were saved from euthanization.
See how it works?
